St Peter’s WW1 Memorial – A Gleaming Light Among the Rubble

It was poignant day to visit the ruins of St Peters. We had yesterday held our Armistice Remembrance service in Ropley Parish Hall – full nearly to overflowing. Visiting the interior on a day with cloud threatening to dampen us down at any minute, it was moving to see the World War One memorial gleaming almost untouched on the badly damaged wall.

Caught in a shaft of sunlight the memorial is surprisingly undamaged. Some limited cracking to the upper left corner was the only obvious damage (the memorial is strapped to the wall for safety). Once the lettering is re-blacked it will be nearly as good as new.
